Philippians 2:5-8 (HCSB)
Christ’s Humility and Exaltation
5 Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus, 6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His own advantage. 7 Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men. And when He had come as a man in His external form, 8 He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross.
Kati Andrews
Christ came to Earth as a man. He experienced pain, hunger, thirst, exhaustion like us. He probably even stubbed His toe once or twice! Yet He performed miracles and He rose from the dead. He knew who He was and His power yet remained humble. We are to have a mind like Christ. When I think of “having a mind like Christ,” I immediately feel like a failure! How am I supposed to be like the only perfect One?! Since today is about humility, let’s focus on what humility is and is not. It’s a modest or low view of one’s own importance. How did Jesus, the Son of God, the ultimate Healer, and miracle worker remain modest? Jesus did all things without thinking about Himself or considering if those actions made Him more favorable to others. I love how verses 2:1-4 set this up as “Unity Through Humility.” If we are to experience His consolation, affection, and mercy, we should fulfill God’s joy by being like-minded and do nothing through selfish ambition. We should not look at our own interests, but at the interests of others. Anything we do from self-pride is done in our own interests. Pray today about how to remain humble in your workplace, your home, your church… And pray for me, that I can experience that same level of humility and relinquish selfish pride.
