1 Timothy 2:9-15 (HCSB)
9 Also, the women are to dress themselves in modest clothing, with decency and good sense, not with elaborate hairstyles, gold, pearls, or expensive apparel, 10 but with good works, as is proper for women who affirm that they worship God. 11 A woman should learn in silence with full submission. 12 I do not allow a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; instead, she is to be silent. 13 For Adam was created first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and transgressed. 15 But she will be saved through childbearing, if she continues in faith, love, and holiness, with good judgment.

Growing up with 3 sisters and no brothers, being married, having 3 daughters and a granddaughter, I feel like I am behind the 8 ball with this passage!! Lol
I “think” Paul is saying in vs. 9-10 that women should dress as to not draw inappropriate attention to herself. As far as submission, some uses of silence have been translated as peaceable, meaning maybe without contention. Also, this does not mean a woman should be under the authority of EVERY man in her church just the ones God has placed in leadership roles. If a woman is to teach, it should by under her church leaders authority.
Paul is not saying women are less than men or not as good as them. (Galatians 3:28) We are all equals. Today there is a strong struggle with authority. Not just what Paul mentions. People do not respect the authority of police, students do not respect the authority of teachers, children of parents, women of their husbands.... I could go on and on.
Sometimes if we need to “cut” a song for Sunday worship service due to time constraints, Neil will ask us what we think. I always respond, “we will go with what you say because we are under your authority.” We ALL have someone whose authority we are under and need to submit to. I pray we can all learn to peaceably submit to that authority and trust God.
