1 Timothy 3:8-13 (HCSB)
8 Deacons, likewise, should be worthy of respect, not hypocritical, not drinking a lot of wine, not greedy for money, 9 holding the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. 10 And they must also be tested first; if they prove blameless, then they can serve as deacons. 11 Wives, too, must be worthy of respect, not slanderers, self-controlled, faithful in everything. 12 Deacons must be husbands of one wife, managing their children and their own households competently. 13 For those who have served well as deacons acquire a good standing for themselves, and great boldness in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

It’s true. How can we trust someone in such a position as Deacon or Pastor if they are opposite outside of the church? Do we see them at local sporting events? Restaurants? Are they sitting at the bar? It’s not a good look. I want my boys to see these men and their wives as noble. Someone to look up to. Temple has amazing Deacons, and their wives are so precious. There are several qualifications for Elders and Deacons, as there should be. First, you must be nominated, I’m sure that good reputation helps. Each church is different but then there’s a list of events that follows. Testimony, personal interview with the pastors (several great questions) and the church votes. They serve all throughout our church. On Sunday, just look around. They will have a smile on their face while talking with a newcomer or helping wherever they’re needed. Will they be perfect? Absolutely not, only Jesus is perfect. But they do model biblical behavior. They are men that possess character that aligns with Christ’s. They are not conformed to this world but transformed by God’s truth. We need to be different. Our faith should be seen by everyone we encounter. So, smile and share Jesus with someone today.
