Hosea 2:20-23 (HCSB)
20 I will take you to be My wife in faithfulness, and you will know Yahweh. 21 On that day I will respond — this is the Lord’s declaration. I will respond to the sky, and it will respond to the earth. 22 The earth will respond to the grain, the new wine, and the oil, and they will respond to Jezreel. 23 I will sow her in the land for Myself, and I will have compassion on No Compassion; I will say to Not My People: You are My people, and he will say, “You are My God.”

Jesus teaches us in the New Testament, John 15:7, this same principle: "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you." These verses in Hosea reveal the characteristics of a real relationship with God–His provision, His judgement, His promise of redemption, His mercy. God longs for a relationship with us. If we were to send Him a love note asking “Do you love me? Yes or No,” YES would be marked every time. Would our love letter response be the same? He wants our love, freely given as His is.
