Galatians 6:1-10 (HCSB)
Carry One Another’s Burdens
6 Brothers, if someone is caught in any wrongdoing, you who are spiritual should restore such a person with a gentle spirit, watching out for yourselves so you also won’t be tempted. 2 Carry one another’s burdens; in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3 For if anyone considers himself to be something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 But each person should examine his own work, and then he will have a reason for boasting in himself alone, and not in respect to someone else. 5 For each person will have to carry his own load. 6 The one who is taught the message must share all his good things with the teacher. 7 Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows he will also reap, 8 because the one who sows to his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit. 9 So we must not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, we must work for the good of all, especially for those who belong to the household of faith.

It always amazes me how lessons from the Bible transcend time. Here, Paul is writing to a number of churches in Galatia, a land he visited during one of his missionary journeys. He is troubled by the fact that the Jewish and non-Jewish people have been influenced by other leaders to follow the laws of the Torah in order to be considered people of God. He has reminded them that they are all God's people because of Jesus. Because of Jesus living, dying, and being resurrected, they were all connected in one family. We need this same lesson today more than ever. In chapter 6 Paul talks about the importance of looking after others and correcting their wrongdoings...to not stop doing what is good. Today, we are people consumed with an "us" mentality. Many of us, myself definitely included, measure whether or not we should do something by what we are going to get out of it. Paul is reminding not just the people of Galatia, but all of us, to continue to work and do things not for ourselves, but for God. We should give our time and talents in helping all people in hopes of pleasing Him. Take time today and really think about something you can do to help someone else. Is there someone you know who is struggling spiritually? Call them and tell them you are praying for them. Does someone you know need help around their house? Take a day off to help. Even though the lessons do stand the test of time, we don't. Let's take some time to love on one another.
