John 14:15-18  (HCSB)
Another Counselor Promised

15 “If you love Me, you will keep My commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever.17 He is the Spirit of truth. The world is unable to receive Him because it doesn’t see Him or know Him. But you do know Him, because He remains with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you.

Throughout this week we have explored lessons from the book of Joshua. Now we fast-forward to John 14, where Jesus speaks to His disciples about the importance of obedience. He says, “If you love Me, keep My commands.” But Jesus doesn’t leave the disciples-or us–to figure this out on our own. He promises the Holy Spirit, who will guide, strengthen, and remind us of the truth. And then, one of the best promises of all, He promises to return! We don’t have to rely on our own strength or understanding (thankfully). God fights the battles for us. Just like the walls of Jericho fell through faith and obedience, we, too, will experience God’s victory in our lives when we trust Him completely and walk in obedience. Trust him, obey His word, and watch the walls fall. There is victory through obedience!
