James 2:8-12  (HCSB)
8 Indeed, if you keep the royal law prescribed in the Scripture, Love your neighbor as yourself, you are doing well. 9 But if you show favoritism, you commit sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever keeps the entire law, yet fails in one point, is guilty of breaking it all. 11 For He who said, Do not commit adultery, also said, Do not murder. So if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you are a lawbreaker.
12 Speak and act as those who will be judged by the law of freedom.

Dana Dorris
James is speaking about the important lesson that people should be treated equally with respect, regardless of their wealth or status in society. The “Royal Law” refers to loving your neighbor as you do yourself. Being prejudiced is a sin, and it goes against the fundamental principle of love and justice. James also warns here that we as believers will be judged according to how we treat other people. James also reminds us that IF we show mercy and grace to others, we will be treated with mercy and grace from our Lord. I don’t know about you, but I need all the mercy I can get and am grateful for its abundance! I am nowhere close to deserving it, but I will spend the rest of my life being thankful that I serve a just and merciful God.
