James 2:18-19 (HCSB)
18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I will show you faith from my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. The demons also believe—and they shudder.

James packs a punch with the 2 verses we’ll discuss today. In Verse 18, we see him speaking again of the tension between faith and works. Can we truly have faith in our Creator but not be compelled to live out His commands? God didn’t save us to be dormant. We should live out our faith daily in the way we serve others for His Glory. And He should be a part of all of our works. Philippians 2:3 tells us to do nothing out of selfish ambition, but to work out of humility. And as James mentions, God grows our faith by the things we learn as we work and serve others. Verse 19 is a sobering reminder that just acknowledging God’s existence is not His will for our lives. James says that we’re no better than the demons if we don’t recognize that He is our Lord and Savior, repent of our sins, and worship Him in all that we do. And just as the demons shudder at His existence, so should the unbeliever. We know that God is worthy of our worship and the fear of those who reject Him.
