Deuteronomy 6:1-9 (HCSB)
The Greatest Command
6 “This is the command—the statutes and ordinances—the Lord your God has instructed me to teach you, so that you may follow them in the land you are about to enter and possess. 2 Do this so that you may fear the Lord your God all the days of your life by keeping all His statutes and commands I am giving you, your son, and your grandson, and so that you may have a long life. 3 Listen, Israel, and be careful to follow them, so that you may prosper and multiply greatly, because Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has promised you a land flowing with milk and honey.
4 “Listen, Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is One. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. 7 Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead. 9 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

As I read Deuteronomy 6:1–9, what stands out to me most is how deeply personal and loving God's instructions are. This passage doesn’t come across as just a list of rules; it's an invitation into a relationship with God that starts with love. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength." That line reminds me that our faith isn’t about perfection, but devotion. God wants our whole hearts, and from that love, everything else flows. For example, how we live, how we raise our children, how we speak and act. It’s a reminder to keep God at the center of our daily lives, not just when things are hard or when we come to church, but in ordinary moments throughout our daily lives. I’ve been reflecting on how I can be more intentional about bringing God into my everyday routine. Whether it's through a quiet prayer in the morning, a kind word spoken, or simply pausing to thank Him in the middle of the day; it all matters. I believe God notices those small, faithful steps. This passage encourages us to let our love for God be visible not only to ourselves but to others, especially the younger generation. What we model, they will remember.
Let’s pray: Lord, help us to love You with all our heart, soul, and strength. Make Your Word alive in our homes and in our daily lives. Teach us to lead by example, to speak of Your goodness often, and to live in a way that honors You. Anchor us in Your love and help us to pass that love on to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
